AAUS Statement on Escalating Violence and Systemic Targeting in Syria
The Alawites Association of the United States (AAUS) strongly condemns the continued targeted killings in Syria, including the murders of two civilians in Homs on July 23. These are part of a disturbing trend of violence aimed at vulnerable communities.
This includes the mass killing of Alawites in March, attacks on Christian churches, and the systematic targeting of Druze in Sweida. Secular and moderate Sunni Syrians are also being silenced through intimidation, disappearance, and assassination.
We hold Syria’s transitional authorities and extremist networks led by Ahmad al-Sharaa responsible for enabling these attacks. This state-enabled violence violates basic human rights and international law.
AAUS urges the U.S., Europe, and international partners to:
- Condemn these crimes;
- Hold those responsible accountable, including transitional authorities and armed factions;
- Support policies based on human rights, decentralization, and community protection.
Syria’s minorities are not collateral damage—they are citizens. Without justice, there can be no peace.
