Statement from the Alawites Association of the United States Regarding the Kurdish Unity Conference

4/29/25, 4:00 PM

The Alawites Association of the United States warmly welcomes the outcomes of the Kurdish Unity Conference held in Qamishli

The Alawites Association of the United States warmly welcomes the outcomes of the Kurdish Unity Conference held in Qamishli. The adoption of the "Joint Political Vision" document represents a step forward that we can build on it, for all Syrians who aspire to build a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic future.

We endorse the vision of Syria as a multi-ethnic, multicultural, and multi-religious state, where the rights of all components — including Arabs, Kurds, Alawites, Christians, Druze,  Syriacs, Assyrians and Yazidis — are fully recognized, protected, and enshrined in the national constitution. The call for a decentralized parliamentary system, based on political pluralism, equality, and human rights, reflects the principles necessary to heal the wounds of the past and lay the foundations for a stable and united Syria.

As a community that has itself endured marginalization, targeted violence, and demographic manipulation, the Alawite community understands deeply the importance of safeguarding the rights of every Syrian group. We commend the emphasis placed on stopping the demographic changes, ensuring the safe return of displaced persons, and recognizing the full political, cultural rights of the Kurdish community in new Syria.

We believe that true national unity can only be achieved through a decentralized system that respects the diversity and aspirations of all Syrians. The commitments outlined in the Joint Political Vision offer a reasonable roadmap for a just and representative Syria that belongs to all its people.

The Alawites Association of the United States stands in solidarity with this vision and calls on all stakeholders, both within Syria and internationally, to support all efforts that move us toward lasting peace, dignity, and democracy for all Syrians.
