Alawite Association of the United States Condemns Massacre of Alawite Civilians in Syria, Calls for Immediate International Action
Washington, D.C. – The Alawite Association of the United States AAUS, strongly condemns the brutal killings carried out by local armed groups against Alawite civilians in the rural areas of Talkalakh on June 10, 2025. These crimes followed clashes between HTS and armed groups reportedly linked to smuggling activities near the Syrian-Lebanese border.
These atrocities are not isolated incidents. They are part of an accelerating campaign of organized violence, systemic displacement, and sectarian targeting of minorities. These acts directly contradict the efforts of the international community including the US and regional powers to support for a peaceful transition of power and a new era of security, prosperity, and inclusion in Syria.
We urgently call on all parties involved in the Syrian transition—regional powers, international organizations, and humanitarian bodies—to take immediate actions:
o An immediate, independent investigation into the killings in Telkelakh
o Concrete measures to protect vulnerable minority communities across Syria
o Transparent enforcement of the terms promised under the Saudi-sponsored peace framework that focused in inclusivity and decentralization.
o An international mechanism to monitor and report on ideological indoctrination and systemic marginalization of minorities.
Peace cannot be built on promises alone. It requires justice, accountability, and a firm commitment to protect the international principles and the dignity of all people.
